At least my copper levels are high 2 years ago

Today I looked at my list determined to check something off. I picked this. It took a couple of hours, but we got it done.

Isak had great fun counting; manning the pennies (after I ran out of one cent wrappers) dropping them into his big red bucket, scooping them into a paper cup, and pouring them into the plastic bottle.

The total for today is $207.00.
The complete total is $315.00!

W O O T !!! definitely worth it!

After a long walk (during which we dropped by the dollar store for more wrappers and a small green truck), a light lunch, and putting Isak down for a nap, I’ve continued with the Great Coin Roll. I managed to get through the first juice jug, and the tally came to over $100. $108 to be precise.

If I’d found a brown bill in the corner of the laundry room I’d have shouted for joy. It’s the same, it is – the joy is just fragmented into little brown paper rolls.

I found the coin wrapper thingamajig, some slightly squashed wrappers and some batteries that fit. Eventually I got it working and Isak had great fun scooping up handfuls of coins and dropping them into the top while I took care of switching the wrappers when they were full.

We rolled about $40 (we haven’t made much of a dent) and then ran out of everything except penny rolls. Not bad for a start. It’ll be easier next time – I just need to find new wrappers.

This is one of those decluttering things that may have a nice payoff. We have a couple of juice jugs and some big crystal ashtrays (when we quit smoking we had to do something with them) full of change.

Most of it is smaller change (I save loonies and toonies elsewhere for a still undecided reward), but there’s a lot of it. I used to have a Texas mickey full of pennies, but I gave it away.

Funny – adding this goal made me remember when I was 9 or so I had a friend named Melanie who had a giant plastic cat bank. It was a white persian, maybe 3-4 feet tall, and it was heavy to the neck with change.

Melanie was a bit braggy about it, and once said slyly that if I could carry it downstairs I could keep it, and it wasn’t so much that I was greedy (although there was that coveted sony walkman thing I’d heard about) as that she’d dared me knowing I couldn’t do it.

I did though. I huffed and puffed, dragged and strained my little disks and slowly but surely managed to get that thing out of her bedroom, through the hallway, and down the stairs, leaving a deep trail in the shag carpeting as I went. I had plastic cat ear imprints on my palms, but I was triumphant!

Melanie was pretty upset and ran to tell her mother, who of course kindly but firmly burst my bubble of riches untold. I was a little crushed and thought it horribly unfair.

At present I may not have a plastic cat full of money, but I’ve got the next best thing. And I’m looking for that automatic coin counter. It’s around here somewhere…

and you can bet it’s going into my “Save $1000” goal. This little task is worth it!

I have an insane amount of coins. Probably $200 dollars worth in just one jar, but I’m way too lazy to sort them, and roll them. One of these days I’ll splurge on something nice, but I’ll have to roll these eventually.
