How I did it: I was raised near constantly sailing, some of my earliest memories include the smell of oil floating on the surface of the water, the creak of the rigging while falling asleep, and the discomfort of a lifejacket. I learned to swim and walk at the same time, I could sail through the roughest of water without feeling sick and my first license earned was a boating one. Of course, the years of experience were helpful, but I did take a course … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I actually won a raffle for a free class. I probably would not have done it on my own, but now having done this I want to do other things I wouldn't normally chose like karate. I took the class for the local university gym. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I booked a one week sailing course in Greece. They gave me plenty of information about what to expect. They sent me RYA Competent Crew Course books beforehand so I was able to familiarise myself with knots and things like that.We stayed on board the boat for a week, sailing from island to island and learning lots along the way. It was incredible and I can't wait to do it again. You don't need to do a course though - it's quite easy to g… Read how I did it…

How I did it: Well, I've always been a sailor. My dad was and I was. But I haven't been in the longest time. So my dad and I went out the other night to participate in a club regatta. Even though the wind was light we had a good time... Read how I did it…

How I did it: Well, it was absolutely random. I was at a computer lab when I ran into Mark the Wellness Guy and he told me he was organizing a sailing field trip on Friday. (November 21, 2008) So I signed up, showed up Friday and had a blast! Read how I did it…

Going sailing with someone or being proficient enough to sail by my own ability.
I had a FANTASTIC time sailing today. We didn’t go out on the open ocean but stayed in the harbor lane. This was ok because I hadn’t been a crew member in so long I was grateful for the refresher in the harbor. We had excellent experienced sailors to be with and they were patient and kind and very instructive. I remember port and starboard and bow and stern and cleat and sheets and jib and mainsail and and and and. One of my favorite parts of sailing is the terminology! A secret language.
It was perfect weather even though I did get a bit more sun than I had wanted. We ate perfect food and had a grand grand time.
I went with oye_vey who took her camera so hopefully she’ll post an image or two!
It looks like I might have a chance to go sailing in the pacific because of the “connection thing”. We’ll have to see if we can make it happen. I think I’ll make this goal more firm – I want to go sailing on the Pacific Ocean. That is the real goal.
seems like he is interested in taking us out on the boat when we go out for the wedding this coming month. I am not sure if I am going to want to use that sail for this goal because I think the main reason for this goal is to sail in the Pacific ocean – not the Atlantic since I have sailed in the Atlantic numerous times.
I also want to sail where I can be a crew member, when I sail with my family they always do everything because they are such advanced sailors and really aren’t interested in having me do things. We’ll see – maybe this time I’ll be able to do something since one cousin will be on his honeymoon! :)
cutebutpsycho ehh.
I went sailing once. I got seasick, and I was on a lake. A small lake. In fact, every time I’ve ever been on a boat I’ve gotten seasick. Here’s a story no one asked for: I went on a school trip in a really old-fashioned ship, like the ones from those pirate movies with Johnny Depp. I was listening to what they were saying, and then the water got a little choppy. I almost threw up on my teacher. Three other girls got sick and so the captain and his people(?) told us to go down into the ship, but then the water got very choppy and they sent all of us down there. We were all kind of freaked out about it. Oh, I was so sick. That’s the story. But seriously, go sailing! It’s fun!
my first yourney on a sailboat is sceduled for the end of April. Four people on an 37feet boat. Im am realy looking forewardto this!

I love sailing. There is nothing more exilerating, the movement of the boat through the water, the wind in the sail and blowing through your hair, the ocean spray, the smell of the sea. I’ve sailed off California, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. Here’s a shot sailing from Gili Air to Gili Trawangan near Lombok in Indonesia. It was a beautiful day. Crystal clear water. You could see the coral and sea grass below. Colorful fish of all description were everywhere as we maneuvered the boat through the reef to land on the beach of Gili Trawangan. And there begins another story.
