I am finally taking ASL classes next month! I’ve been wanting to learn ASL for more than a year, and I’m very interested in becoming a teacher for the deaf & hard of hearing, so I’m really looking forward to it!!

I was online today trying to find an asl class in my area…massasoit didn’t have a summer class, but BCC does! classes start this thursday, so I had really splendid timing! I signed up, ordered my book, and looked up the campus location. I am going to have to miss one class due to TEAM training at the stadium, but hopefully someone in my class will be willing to meet up and fill me in on what I missed that day.
!! super excited about this!

I’ve found a simple text to work (Humphries et al.) and perhaps a text from the local library. See where this one goes.
I am not deaf, but I would like to learn how to sign. I think it is important especially since I want to become a teacher. I have always been interested in ASL. Both of my sisters took ASL courses and said that it was very difficult, but I would like to learn.
I did do… half of this class. My mom started declining and eventually died, so I got distracted. However,I did also buy myself a sign dictionary and have been working from that.
I don’t have a good sense of when this goal will be “done,” exactly. Will I need to be completely fluent? That will probably take a series of courses and some sort of cultural immersion. Or maybe that’s not even actually possible.
I don’t think it’s cool to run into someone and not be able to communicate because of my ignorance..
