I’ve always been fascinated by nature, and I don’t think you get to experince more of it than in the vast wilderness of Alaska.
Ultimately, my dream is to leave everything behind- taking what I need/want in the trunk of my vehicle and drive cross-country to a remote village in rural AK. In this fantasy, I’ll find a job at some bar or market and live in a tiny room right above it.
The ultimate rush comes in knowing nobody, being around nothing familiar or remotely comforting. I’ll be forced to reconcile everything inside, having nothing but time to reflect.
Sure, it will be a while before I can even do this- I have two kids at home, but this dream hasn’t faded since the day it crept inside and made itself at home.
I’ll let you know how it goes ;)

Didn’t live there for a year, left early. Not my thing. Glad it’s over.

I think 9 months would suffice.

Interview for a job on Friday. Applied to seven jobs in Alaska. Hoping for the best.

This one will have to be placed on a back burner. I figured I’d manage this in conjunction with an AmeriCorps gig, but unfortunately all the AmeriCorps positions I was once interested in have ceased to exist or they start at the wrong time of year (such as August, when I’m looking for a Jan – March, April absolute latest start date). Someday.

...I’m talking about the year and a half I lived there as a very very small child. I totally want to go back some day and do it again, this time at an age I’ll remember living there.

my fiance and i took a cruise to alaska this summer and we completely fell in love with the place. particularly wrangle and ketchikan. we might feel different if we experienced the winter, but there are very few people in the towns in alaska, and the scenery is enough to make you weep. i would love to give living there a shot for at least a year.
