clean our apartment more

my fiance and i attacked the hell out of our apartment tonight. the bedroom’s still a bit of a disaster, but everything else looks (and smells!) the best in recent memory.

we’re getting pretty good at keeping the apartment decidedly neat.

our problem isn’t that we’re slobs, but rather that we have so much stuff crammed into a relatively small place. and i’m a wicked pack rat.

before my fiance came home last night, i cleaned almost the entire bedroom, spruced up the living room, vacuumed all over, picked up about a week’s worth of mail that had accumulated on our landing, and started scrubbing the bathroom last night. with a still-sparkling kitchen and a newly (though not quite thoroughly) cleaned apartment, last night our home felt the coziest it’s been in a while – which was a nice treat after a very long monday.

tonight, i would love to tackle even a load of laundry and finish cleaning the hell out of the bathroom.

i’ll clean every other room in the apartment, but the kitchen just freaks me out sometimes. so it was a very nice surprise last night when i came home to a sparkling kitchen that, honestly, looked the best it has all year.

since my finace tackled the kitchen, i’m spending my friday off cleaning everything else, which i’m actually looking forward to. it’ll be nice to have an apartment that doesn’t require a “sorry about the mess, we haven’t had much time to clean lately” warning every time someone comes over.

on friday, we must have spent at least four hours throwing stuff out, rearranging things, vaccuuming EVERYTHING (even under the couch, which i think we’ve neglected since we moved in almost a year ago), scrubbing, polishing, washing, putting things back where they belong and basically making up for three months of lazy neglect. and our apartment looks SO GOOD now. we’re damn proud of ourselves.

all we need to do is clean the kitchen. our agreement is that i’ll happily clean every other room in the apartment if dave just cleans out the sink and the fridge, because the bathroom makes him as queasy as the kitchen makes me.

now that we’re back to keeping similar hours and would rather spend our time together simply enjoying each other’s company instead of being productive, our apartment has suffered mightily. i took off work today and dave only has a meeting to attend before he comes back home, so we’ve sworn that we’re spending a good chunk of the day cleaning the hell out of this place.

he did an excellent job cleaning when he worked from home last friday, and i used to spend hours cleaning this apartment from top to bottom when dave was working on saturdays, so i know we can actually muster up the energy and focus to stay on track. it’s just a matter of actually doing it.
