How to surf in hawaii
How I did it: Took a trip to the Big Island. Paid for a class with the Big Island Lifeguards. It was that easy. They taught us how to pop up, took us out into the water and pushed us into waves. It was fun!
Lessons & tips: Don't think. Do less.

I missed an opportunity to surf with my kids while we were in Hawaii a couple of years ago. I hope the chance comes up again.
I’m not getting any younger :o)
Surfing in hawaii is definately a must if you go. It’s such a huge part of the hawaiian culture. We took lessons from a place called Hawaiian Fire. They’re hawaiian, and they’re firefighters, and they’re all pretty hot. I definately recommend the place because we had an awesome time. They take you over to a remote beach in West Oahu, away from the crowds. The reef there is also dead, therefore, it’s not sharp so you don’t have to worry about getting cut. They also take pics of you surfing that you can purchase so it makes for good keepsake memories. If anyone is interested, their website is www.hawaiianfire.com.
I recently went to hawaii… its an amazing place, and everyone should see it, but stay away from the touristy stuff as much as possible. I mean yes, Pearl Harbor is a must and Diamond Head is awsome, but Waikiki is horrible because too many people are on it. If you want Hawaiian experience and little to no tourists clogging the beaches, you have to go to North Shore. There are beaches galore, practically no tourists, and the waves are amazing, always good for some kind of surfing. Didn’t get a chance to surf them, because I don’t have a surf board yet, but if you got one and your planning on going to hawaii, you need to surf the north shore. Turtle Bay is probably the best.
...I would run on the beach each morning as the sun rises and each night as the sun sets and surf all day…
My surf lesson was amazing. Im not usually a morning person but i had to wake up at 7 to go. I took the lesson from a place based out of the hotels. Plus, i ended up getting my lesson for free (orginally $70). It took me a couple of times but i Stood up :]. Unfortuantely i took the lesson on the last day i left, other wise i woulda surfed some more. I reccommend trying to surf to everybody. It was an experience ill never forget.
its where i first learned to surf, and it was the best place to learn. i wish i remembered the name of the loc/surf shop, but theyre everywhere in hawaii. i do know it was on the northern side of oahu near kaneohe bay. it was pretty sweet, ridiculously blue water, larger turtles, good tan too :)
