walk across a frozen lake

My family did this once in Sweden when I was barely four years old. It was the only time we ever went to Sweden in the winter, and the image of the frozen lake, the wide horizon and the rows of mountains in the distance is my sole memory from that particular vacation. I remember that I was also deeply intrigued by the ice fishers…

Did it in Finland in January ‘04, but we bottled out when we found the bit where there’s the thick ice, then a layer of water, then thin ice, so with each step, our feet fell 15cm or so into water before hitting the good ice. Not good!

A great experience though – and one I’ll never forget.
