Never done this either 6 months ago

It’s funny because one of my favorite things in the world is walking down railroad tracks, and my favorite spot in this city is a secret place where the city opens up to reveal the tracks and from the bridge you can see clear to downtown and the sun is almost always setting on the horizon or the moon is rising. Maybe I’ll head to Chicago the next time i have a little extra $$. Can’t be that expensive.

i went on a train once 10 months ago

it was wonderful….but that was when i was 9 and i hardly remember anything but the pressure of getting off at the right stop.

the amtrak. 15 months ago

here’s the plan: pick up the amtrak in bellingham (since it pulls in right next to where i work) then when it stops in mt. vernon my friend will get on and we will ride it down to seattle!

it’s pretty cheap, considering. and the biggest plus is not having to deal with all the seattle traffic or paying for gas. (: (:

hopefully we’ll get this all set up for late summer/early fall.

Machu Picchu 16 months ago

We rode a train while going to Machu Picchu, Peru. It was my first and enjoyed too! :D

i found rates for about $320 round trip from new orleans to san diego the first week of august. Now i just have to decide if i’m going to go alone because i’m not sure i can find anyone to come with me. I’ll make a decision by saturday hopefully

so much fun 18 months ago

We had a great time on the train ride. It wasn’t long and we didn’t “travel” anywhere, but it was a wonderful experience, one that the kids loved and that in itself made it worthwhile. We rode on a 1930s model that hasn’t been updated at all and that was pretty neat. One day I’ll get my train ride through the Canadian Rockies…

Sunday! 18 months ago

This Sunday is the day we’ve been waiting for. We’ll head out to LMM Railway and have a very nice family day aboard the train. Can’t wait!

Part of my 29 19 months ago

I absolutely love trains. Not sure if it’s the fascination with a era gone by or what, but I would love to one day take a trip, possibly up through the Canadian Rockies. For this part of “my mission” I will settle for any train ride, though (other than the one at the zoo).

Lots of fun... and something to be enjoyed again and again... 20 months ago

And the names…

The Flying Scotsman...

The SuperChief...

The Wolverine...

The City of New Orleans...

Twin Cities Zephyr...

20th Century Limited...

Each magic in their own way.

I wouldn’t have missed riding on any of them for all the tea in China…

(Maybe I will get to try the Orient Express and the Canadian Silver & Blue class, of course! at some point in the dim and distant future…)

To live as they lived.. 20 months ago

It would be so nice to travel somewhere by train. It would be so cool to think about how people used to travel this way all the time before airplanes and cars and things. Though I’m sure in real life it isn’t near as romantic and fun as it seems, I’d still be so thrilled! =)
