We went rafting in New Mexico on the Rio Grande. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right time of the year for it to be truly a white water experience, so I want to go again. We did have a fabulous time!

How I did it: I was working at Sandia, and they organized this employee trip -- WHAT??? A GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION SETTING UP SOMETHING REALLY *FUN*???!?? -- so of course as soon as I found out I could go whitewater rafting, I signed up! WOOHOOOOO! Because I was the only one who'd done anything remotely similar before, and because I'd taught kayaking at summer camp, I got to be in the front helping steer, which was effing awesome. … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I researched a couple of whitewater rafting companies on the internet and asked around to see if anyone had recommendations. In the end my best friend and I settled on Rivermen. They had the best "bang" for your money. And they require you to purchase the package approximately 30 days ahead of time...so around July 1st we went ahead and made our reservations and contacted all our friends to give us their money. How I did it: I did the white water rafting in Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls on the Zambezi river.Even though some of the rapids were closed at the particular time of year; the 15or so rapids that we did do were a blast!Definitely going back next year at a different time of year to complete more of the rapids! How I did it: Went on a trip to Utah where I did the whitewater rafting with a group of strangers. It was class II rapids which were fairly calm. I would definitely recommend others try out class II for the first time as well. Read how I did it…

How I did it: The trip was expensive, but still a fraction of the retail cost. It was an expedition to the Magpie River in eastern Canada not far from Newfoundland. Sadly, the river is now dammed. Wild and remote. Some difficult trekking and some scary water, but the leaders were incredibly skilled and smart. On shore after we ran a class-V rapid, on the last day of our trip, a man in our small group fell off a cliff and sustained serious injuries. (Ou… Read how I did it…

I really want to do it again, and somewhere worth doing!
For my first time, my Grandma, brother Eric, Uncle Larry, Aunt Renee, and cousins Travis and Amber went for a full day trek down the Salmon River in Idaho.
I remember having an amazing time, and getting in a good work out in the process.
I cannot wait to do this again, I just have to pick the place and make it happen.
Unfortunately, living in Chicago means that the nearest place with white water is on the Wolf River in Wisconsin, and from what I remember reading, those are like class I-II rapids, maybe III during the thaw.

So, after being disappointed the first time I went rafting, I decided to give it another try. I went with the college group at my church again, though it was mostly different people from last year. I’m so glad I went because the rapids were SO much better this time around! the weather was way less hot, so that was a good thing; no sunburn this year! We didn’t swim at all this year, but that was ok because there were very few times when we weren’t in a rapid or preparing for the next one. I think everyone had a really good time! :)

In the spring I will plan a trip with a few friends to Golden, BC to go rafting. I wanted to go last year but by the time I decided it was even something I wanted to do most of the water had come down from the mountains and there were hardly any rapids left at all. 2009 is my year.

I went white water rafting on the Colorado river about 8 years ago. It was a blast – I’d happily do it again, though I wouldn’t go out of my way to make it happen again, either. Just sort of a “check the box, I’ve experienced this and enjoyed it” rather than a “yippee, hooray, let’s do it again soon!”.
AMAZING
Even better than heli-skiing
Our raft flipped in the worst of the rapids….was THAT ever terrifying…also sooo exhilarating
wonderful memories
Very scary – the first thing we did was go over class V rapids in individual boats. This was NOT what I signed up for, but I did survive. I would go again if there was nothing over class III, and if the guides didn’t guarantee that you would be “having an out of boat experience” which I did – 3 times!
