It’s the mystery of why the stones are there that gets me.

Sadly, we did not get to go. The weather was terrible most of the time, plus we had to build a patio and that took up all of our free time. Maybe next year. I’m pretty let down.

My dad and I have a date set to go visit the Lexington Cemetery. Apparently it’s quite the site.

There is something about them that I am drawn to. I prefer the ones from the 1800-1900’s. My dad and I used to visit alot of cemeteries when ever we’d be driving through the state. We were suppose to go to this huge one in Chicago, but we never did. Hopefully some other time.
I visited the old cemetery in Ipswich, Massachusetts (split between immigrant Poles and older, presumably WASPier residents). You can see Boston, 35 miles away, on a clear day.
I also visited the cemetery in Dudley, Massachusetts where my grandfather and many, many other relatives are buried. I hate to say I couldn´t really feel his “presence” there, but it was important to go and leave flowers. He picked out a lovely stone for my grandmother. Not the most noteworthy cemeteries in the traditional sense, but good for the soul nonetheless.
But just ‘cause I dig ‘em. They’re quiet, pretty, full of interesting stuff, and, sadly, a reminder of our own mortality. I enjoy Harolding, as it’s called, for reasons that have nothing to do with black eyeliner or Sisters of Mercy records. By the way, I highly recommend visiting Highgate (in London) and La Recoleta (in Buenos Aires), though I’m also partial to New England graveyards with old slate stones.
Worth doing!
around town that i’ve visited before. it’s almost halloween and the leaves are changing. this might be the perfect time to do this.
