Go on a week long cross country bike trip

Ive been checking out what it would take to bike cross country, and looking at all the equipment and safety tips. I cant afford it this year, but I would like to go next year if I can afford it then. I want to do something relatively nearby and short, like bike to Clearwater Beach and back, on the big “dream” trip. Meanwhile, I think biking to a park here in Orange County and camping for the weekend would be good enough. Anybody reading this that likes to camp and ride a bike, please send me a shout. I have a 7 year old, also, who will be 8 in January, but I might be able to get a weekend sitter, if I end up doing this alone. Im already stocking up on the waterproof bike packs, and am looking at backpacks and lightweight tents. =) Heres hopin!
