organize a cancer drive

Ok, I spent some more time on this. I spent some time talking with my mom today and we came up with a pretty good idea. Make a contest of UP colleges/universities for the donation moneyes. I think there are 4 colleges in the Upper Peninsula and if I can get the Student Governments to get a small contest based on how much money each school can get (based on a per person average). There is one other thing I would need to do: find some sort of bragging rights for winning. Maybe some Governor “sponsorship”?

Also if this ends up working, this may be able to spread to a state wide contest.

And there is one major flaw in what I’m wanting to do: College students don’t have any money. I wish I would have thought through this a little more earlier. Damn you, having enough time to think while driving on the trip!

Ok, minor set back, but I should be able to pull something together. I think I’ll be staying in the “North” for the summer, so I may be able to either a) change the current style of drive or 2) begin a drive in another city.

This may go on the back burner for a while so I can figure out a way to make it work. That grinds me, knowing that I haven’t thought all the way through a problem.

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

I thought that was a good way to start. On to the important matters. I am visiting the American Cancer Society’s website (www.cancer.org) and it says there is a Relay for Life drive in June. This is a great time for it to be held in Houghton (i.e. no snow), but I think there could be a better drive if the students were there too. This leads me to think that if I can talk to the “local” office, maybe I can get something set-up for April.

This makes me think that the timing could be very poor: two drives in three months. I wonder if there would be the possibility of having the Relay in April and whatever I could organize in September or October. Anyone have some ideas?

Finally, something worthwhile to do with my time not spent on that costume. Although I think the costume is a worthwhile one.

Any ideas how to get this ball rolling?
