Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I moved out of my last, furnished apartment a couple of months ago and have been sleeping on the floor ever since! I actually find the floor rather comfortable, and have no problem with the idea of sleeping on it, but I think if I go too much longer without a mattress people will start to think I’m crazier than they already probably think that I am! 13 months ago

CarmDelayed

This is a goal I didn’t want to add for the longest time because I was afraid it would languish too long on my list. But I finally added it in late May as I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had the motivation I needed – a comfortable bed for my recovery.

So I put it on my list and then it happened. My surgery got moved up a few days and many things on my to do list had to go. Including getting a new mattress.

Not a day goes by that I wish I had the new mattress. Our ancient one is uncomfortable and hard to stay in long enough for a decent night’s sleep.

I would love to say that once I am able to walk and drive and get into a mattress store this would be quickly taken care of, but I’m afraid new obstacles have arisen. Not the least of which is a lack of money.

A lot of cash is going out for medical bills these days. In order to get the mattress I will have to finish our taxes first, and in all the upheaval to get ready for surgery that project got set aside and is completely disorganized. So it might take some time.

But I’m still hoping that a new mattress will be ours in a few months. I still have a lot of recovery and catching up to do, so I will set my goal for the mattress project to October. That should give me enough time to get the taxes done in September and when the return arrives in October we can buy the mattress set. 2 years ago

CarmHopefully soon

I have needed to buy a new mattress forever and never managed to get it done. But I am hoping to take care of this in the next week before my foot surgery. It would make my recovery much more comfortable.

Therre are currently two posible obstacles to getting this done. Too many other tasks to complete before surgery and decreasing mobility on my bad foot. We ran an errand this evening and I had a hard time remaining upright on my foot.boot/crutch as long as I needed to. 2 years ago
