Lucrezea I'm going to update this, I swear! So busy doing goals. :D
I’ve known about geocaching for a few years, and even though I’ve always thought it was an undeniably awesome activity, I never got into it because it seemed way too out of my league. It’s seeming a little more in my league lately since two people that I know (Molly and Jennea!) have recently done it. Reading about their experiences makes it seem a lot more realistic, and a hell of a lot more awesome than I first assumed. There’s quite a few caches within a reasonable radius of our apartment in Burnaby, so I really want to get a GPS sometime when I get home and try it out.
If you don’t know what geocaching is, you’re probably missing out. To quote Wikipedia: “Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called “geocaches” or “caches”) anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container (usually a tupperware or ammo box) containing a logbook. Larger containers can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value.”
How can that not be both entertaining and rewarding? Hopefully while I’m still up north I can convince my dad and Cathy on seeking a few out up here. If not, I’m more than sure that I won’t have a problem roping some friends into accompanying me on an urban treasure hunt.

Even though I went I don’t feel like this goal is completed yet because I didn’t actually find the cache. I’m debating going back out later to find it. We shall see. I feel a bit disappointed. It was an interesting thing to see (it was an old poor house/asylum).

Even though I’ve completed this goal I thought I’d still put in an update :)
I finally went out and got a GPS. I found one cache myself (yay!!) and I looked for another and couldn’t find it. I felt better about it when I found another comment from a seasoned geocacher saying he couldn’t find it either.
More to find this weekend!! (weather permitting that is)

I was going to go out and do this today, but my husband forgot to leave me the car seat, so, since I don’t have any within walking distance this will wait until tomorrow.
I did go to www.geocaching.com to create a profile, now I just need some caches to add to my list!
I’m excited! We’re going to hit up the party store to get some cute “treasures” and then off to the trails with some experienced geocachers!
I’ll let you all know how it turns out tomorrow. I should be able to cross this one off my list!

This sounds like so much fun, and there are a lot of “caches” in my area. I think a lot of them are just off the walking trails so I can get them while I’ve got my little one in the stroller. Not only do I think this will be fun, but it will help me get active and lose all that weight. If I get pregnant again soon, I’ll probably keep on the next 20 too, that will put me over 200 and I don’t want to get there!!! Talk about motivation!!

Turns out, I may have found one after all, just was looking for the wrong shape of a thing! I’ll have to go back this weekend and see if I am right! A friend who geocaches looked at the url for the easy one and sent me a link to the picture of what the case looks like and gave me some pointers of places she’d look based on what the cache site description said. And, lol, I think I found it but thought it was part of the flower bed sprinkler system. oy vey. The other two, still have no idea, lol. But, maybe I’ll have a find under my belt soon!

Well, I tried. Hunted three, found zero. :( I think I don’t know how to look. And the hints don’t make sense to me so don’t help. Very frustrating. Stopped when I got hungry and had lunch. I’ll try again another day. Maybe I’ll actually find one then I can say I’ve actually done this, lol.

I need to do something about my cell phone and have been looking at the iphone. Which has a great gps…. Which would kill two birds with one electronic stone… lol. The phone cost has been bothering me until I realized I was looking at spending $200 on a gps and $200 on a phone and the iphone is less than those put together. duh. And I could start this goal!!! And a girl at work was showing me her iphone today and I was telling her about geocaching and she was really interested. So, maybe a treasure hunt buddy?
