I’ve listened to at least 20 audio books this year ;)

Can't Read! 3 years ago

I have vision damage that makes reading books for pleasure very difficult and usually frustrating. I’d like to listen to audio books on a more regular basis, but I really hate to get a book that is abridged. Just need to find a genre that I like.

I already listen to the Harry Potter books and several horror authors. My latest is Max Brand (old westerns). Before my eye damage, I was a voracious reader of fantasy and science fiction, but most of those available are abridged.

Librivox 3 years ago

I like listening to audiobooks quite a bit. So not wanting to be selfish I joined Librivox, which is a project that is creating human read audiobooks of books in the public domain, for free. Check them out, their catalog is growing every day.

(I’m working on parts of Canterbury Tales and Thus Spake Zarathustra)

Let's trade audio books! 3 years ago

The fact is, until publishers get it together there are too few audio-books out there. And there seems little correlation between “good” books and what makes it into audio format.

I have a lot of audio books in MP3 format… especially on the subjects of History, Science, Science Fiction, and Historical Fiction.

Email me if you want to trade.

Library 4 years ago

I recently started requesting mass science/history audiobooks from the library, and A BUNCH came in today. Now all I have to do is take the time to put them on my ipod. (I’ll be joing audible.com again once I have a new job…yeah)

In the meantime I’ve just finished 3 HP books, A Short History of Nearly Everything, and started listening to Devil In The White City again. I’m trying to listen to a book by Brian Greene called Fabric of the Cosmos which I already have, but although the content is very interesting, the reader doesn’t hold my interest which SUCKS. He’s humorless. Oh well, may try to plow my way through it anyway.

Having a hard time concentrating :( 4 years ago

For the first time I’ve downloaded some audio books this week..

I have always been a kinesthetic (plus a little bit visual) learner. That means I learn best by doing and seeing. For me, the act of reading a book and seeing the words on the page makes it easier for me to comprehend and remember what I have read.

I guess I eventually enjoy reading paper books rather than audio books.

Any ideas might help..
