well im all booked up for 2 weeks in japan in november, my friend is getting married in tokyo, so i’ll spend a week with my friend…......then take off on a week of solo travel and see the rest of the country!!!
I know i must be crazy for travelling alone in a country where i not only cant speak the language, but not read it either! lol! but its now or never!!! none of my friends are interested in overseas travel so bugger em!! i’ll do it without em!! haha! so even though i’m completely terrified, i’m doing it anyways!......and i can’t f@#*king wait!!

GAinCA I will bend the light pretending that it somehow lingered on.
I’m on my way! I bought my plane ticket last night and booked the hostel stay this morning. Tomorrow I’ll request the time off work. Then all that will be left to do is wait for September to come around.

This looks like a definite possibility. I’m going to a wedding as a guest of one of the invitees in September, so for that part I won’t be alone, but I’m hoping to take a couple days off work and stay in Portland (Oregon) for two or three more nights after the wedding. I found a really neat hostel where I could stay with pretty reasonable rates. All that’s left to do is request the time off and book my room. The actual plans are easy to carry out; it’s keeping the courage to really do it that might be challenging. But not that challenging.

This goal seems to have a braod definition. I’ve lived 1000 miles or more from my parents for years so I’m used to flying alone. By traveling alone I mean…
1.) Book a flight OR plan a road trip
2.) Stay at a hotel alone
3.) Do sight seeing in a brand new area alone
4.) MAYBE go out to eat alone….but Subway and pizza are fine by me
I’m a teacher so this is totally doable. Perhaps next summer or over spring break???

I am gonna do this the Summer after the upcoming Summer, which will be a a little more than a year later.
I swear I’ll hold my fear and go full speed ahead on the plane all by myself. _

Viajar sola, sin llegar a un destino donde te esten esperando es algo que tengo pendiente.
Viajar sola si lo hice, pero siempre llegaba a algun lugar donde me esperaban…

eightofeight is clearing her mind, heart soul and life of clutter, little by little
But at first I was supposed to go with someone, who canceled. It was my birthday week, and the trip was paid for (it was for a work trip), so all I had to do was get the extra hotel days for myself. Paris. Free Ride. My birthday. How could I resist?
the work conference was for 3 days, so I went for 10. I got there days early and stayed days later. I AM SO GLAD I DID IT!!!!
I literally found landmarks from walking around. I learned how to get around on the metro, walked miles and miles every day, just taking things in. Had quiet time in Luxembourg Gardens, drank amazing coffee and wine at little cafes…met people from all over the world (even partied with some people i met the night of my birthday while I was drinking Absinthe alone, at a historical hotel)....
I could go on, but I loved it. It was adventurous and exciting. Mostly, I am happy I did not hold myself back because I had no choice but to spend time alone. That would be a definite regret.
So, as another birthday approaches, off I go to Mexico for the week—alone.
I think everyone should do this at least once in their lifetimes. It’s a scary or strange prospect at first, perhaps, but completely worth it in the end.
(of course, traveling with a loved one or friends is good too—it’s just different)
