I’m revising this goal to ‘never again purchase NEW leather shoes.’ I think that giving new life to someone else’s cast-off leather shoes should be acceptable. Good thing I can turn to etsy for cute, vintage options. Just cause I love the animals doesn’t mean I can’t love cute kicks.

I haven’t eaten animals for years. I hate wearing them too. I would never buy a leather coat, purse, or sofa so why do I allow myself leather shoes? I swore them off, but broke my ‘rule’ for a pair of wedding shoes. Forgivable? I don’t know.
How do others veggies out there feel about vintage leather? Would that be a reasonable exception, or am I just looking for excuses?
I don’t eat animals. Now I don’t wear them. I feel really good about this decision!
I gave up wearing leather at age 16, and I’m now 32. It was hard. Very hard. I hated giving up my docs at the time, but I felt better about myself for sticking to my values and ethics.
In the late 80s and early 90s, it was hard to find decent non-leather shoes and I wore a lot of chinese slippers :) Now, buying shoes online makes things so easy (though expensive).. also having access to Payless Shoes helps.
Good luck! Just keep the reason in mind. Every so often, visit http://www.cowsarecool.com/ just to reaffirm your reasons.
because i don’t wear pretty girl shoes. http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ has great quality stuff—especially the ones made with “Vegetan Micro” I have 2 pairs that are just as comfortable as leather and have lasted me 4 years and counting. and now i don’t have to feel sheepish while being the intolerant vegetarian that i am…
