I do everything I can for my friends- and they all know I love them. Time to lay this goal to rest.

R divulged to me a few weeks ago that he couldn’t stand his office since he had to move it into a basement. I told him I’d try to make it better, and so last week I began painting something for him, and it turned into something meaningful and true and I am so glad for it. Its a half-dream, half-diary three canvas piece titled “Before it gets too cold.” Framed it and it looks good enough to give to a dear friend, which means simply that it is the best work I am capable of making at this moment in my life.
Gave it to him last night and he absolutely loved it. He’s going to hang it some time next week.
I wish I could give away every single thing I made, but then, its also a really great feeling to get paid for what you make, and also, I need to pay for stuff and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna get a conventional job.
Made a strand of doves for J, sort of like a four foot long charm and along with it, gave her the following poem:
“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of Me.
She liked it very much, and told me I was a clever girl. J is visiting from Berkley, and its been so great getting to know her. She’s easy to be around, and familiar to me, and I felt the urge to make something for her. I plan on visiting her when I go to Cali.
