finally got it 2 months ago

Turns out it was simply the inside converter (the part used to fill with a bottle of ink instead of a disposable ink cartridge) had a bad seal which is understandable given that I’ve been using it since undergrad college. Now that I’ve had it replaced with a new part that cost around $3 it is working as good as new once again.

My pen just leaked again and it was the biggest mess that I’ve had in a long time so it doesn’t look like my “fix” worked.

I think I got it 3 months ago

After my complete cleaning and reassembly of my fountain pen, it has gone over a week without having any ink leakage issues into the cap, including traveling with it for a weekend so it looks like it can once again be considered a nice fountain pen to use.

My dh collect old fountain pen and I have some ink well calligraphy pens, but none of those are practical enough for everyday writing.
I had this goal in my mind after seeing it on Celtic Christian list http://www.43things.com/person/Celtic_Christian
and today when dh and I were at Good Will I found a half way decent set of pen with nice tips and about 12-14 new cartridges.
we’ll see if I like it as much as I think I will …
If so I may see about finding a nicer pen

first fixing attempt 3 months ago

I just finished working on my pen. I emptied it out all of the way and then took it apart and individually washed each piece and then put it back together and refilled it with fresh ink. Hopefully it was something simple of something being clogged and messing up the proper ink flow but I won’t know till I see if it stops giving me trouble and once again becomes a nice fountain pen to use.

I own a stainless steel Parker fountain pen which I’ve used as my primary pen since college but I’m having my doubts about it being nice anymore. As time goes on I’m having more and more accidents of it leaking into the cap so I think its time to retire it and buy another fountain pen unless I’m able to figure out the problem and fix it.

    Ok 9 months ago

I’ve started using my fountain pen. I’ll mark this done when it becomes commonplace to do so.

Initial things I notice are 1) it’s a pleasure to use, and 2) just the act of having to take the lid off makes me more considerate of my writing… more of a ritual.

I’m not sure my handwriting is any neater right now, but hopefully that will come.

    Reunited 9 months ago

I have finally reunited my pen with its cartridges. It feels rather nice to use, though I haven’t used it for anything important yet, just messing around on a bit of paper.

I will have to get into the habit of carrying it.

Or maybe I’ll just take it to work and leave it there – where I do most of my writing.

    Handwriting 11 months ago

I always used to use a fountain pen, until maybe 10 years ago. It has been suggested that I might improve my handwriting (which I want to do) by using one.

So I shall do my best to find my old pen and cartridges. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll buy a new pen.
