#1-Spend at least 15 minutes immersing yourself in a field you know nothing about. 11 months ago

    I learned about textile engineering.

    The End...sorta 20 months ago

The very last entry is to take a “sick of it” day. No work, no chores (except for clearing my sink), and since the small will be at school, it’ll be all good.

I haven’t done every last entry, but I feel I’ve shaken off any approaching Adultitis and can mark this complete. Now, if you’ll forgive me, I’m off to jump in some mud puddles. :)

Find a place to sit quietly for ten minutes. 20 months ago

Listen for at least one sound that you would not have normally noticed.

It’s been quiet the last half-hour here…except for the tapping of my fingers on the laptop’s keyboard. The one sound that came up (once I got past the normal household sounds and my own) was a very soft hum from the kitchen.

I’ve never heard the fridge/freezer make that noise, so when my ten minutes were up I went to take a look. That is where it was coming from, but to my horror, there was something glowing red in the freezer. Terrified it was on fire (though I smelled no smoke), I yanked it out from it’s little nook.

No fire. It was just the defroster coils…which were in very bad need of a dusting.

(Nearly done with this one. Completed 1-32 & 36. 40 will be completed tomorrow.)

Accessorize your wardrobe today with a touch of childhood 20 months ago

Since I’ve been married, my accessories have been limited to a plain white-gold ring and (since our first anniversary) a heart-shaped pendant reminiscent of my engagement ring with three tiny diamonds in it.

Not that the loving spouse has limited me, I’ve been lazy and haven’t put anything else on. At yesterday’s garage sale I picked up a beautiful silver & turquoise necklace that reminds me of one I had when I was ten.

So I took off my beloved pendant and wore the silver all day today. It feels…odd, but I’ve gotten so, so many compliments on it.

Figure out a way to bring some fun into a dreaded task today. 20 months ago

Today’s dreaded task (the one that caused me to say so, so many unprintable words) was running the PTA garage sale. I don’t know how, precisely, I was put in charge of the garage sale. I believe it was by default as the only board/participating member (same thing most of the time) who shops at the darn things for clothes & camping gear.

To my delight, my son received a toy “ray gun” for his help. I immediately got hold of it and ran around “shooting” people with it. Most specifically, the ones who’d been annoying me and making me in charge of the event. Every time they annoyed me, I “zapped” them.

While it had no effect on them, it did make me feel a bit better until they annoyed me again.

Do something that will get you to laugh out-loud 20 months ago

Since I’m taking the day off, I promised the loving spouse that I’d spend it with him watching movies. As his taste in comedy tends to run towards what I consider stupid humor, this should fit the bill nicely.

Ask an expert something you are curious about in his/her field. 21 months ago

I got a hold of one of our “living resources” in one of the medieval re-creation groups I play with and asked him about the Knights Templar (his particular field of specialty). More specifically about what happened to cause them to disband.

    Here’s his response:

As you mentioned, the Templars were a very influential group during the Crusades and after. During the turn of the 14th century, the French monarch owed them quite a bit of money. Rather than pay this back, Philip used his considerable influence with Clement V (the Pope at the time) to demand the Knights be disbanded. To this end, formal accusations were made against the Grand Master of the Order, Jacques de Moley and his men of heresy, homosexuality, and blasphemy, and de Moley was made to stand trial.

The Pope and the Monarchy are a formidible force combined, and the Templars were stripped of their lands and their wealth upon the torture induced confessions of de Moley and others. The majority of the Templars escaped with their lives and nothing more.

Take a picture of the most childlike spot in town. 21 months ago

The only really childlike thing is the local water park. It’s not an amusement park, just a park by the library which has large toys for the kids to interact with. Push a button/pull a cord/etc and the water squirts out from any number of angles. No camera with me right this second, but I’ll be taking the photo tonight when I return my library books and posting it tomorrow.

Take a routine you do everyday and put a childlike spin on it. 21 months ago

This morning, after dropping the small off at school, I stopped in at Starbucks. (This isn’t usual for me, but I received a gift card.) As I’m not drinking coffee anymore, I decided the next best thing would be one of their steamed milks with raspberry flavoring. And LOTS of whipped cream.

Got home and made sure to eat all the whipped cream first. :)

Buy something that captures the spirit of childhood... 21 months ago

    ...for under $5.00 (including tax)

My purchase was a pair of Blizzards (thank goodness for buy-one-get-one coupons) that I picked up last night on the way to game. Total cost: $4.18.
