We booked our Hostel for October 1st. It was kinda last minute so accomodation selections were slim but we will definitely be taking part in 2 full days of festivities!

How to go to Oktoberfest

How I did it: Planned it as part of my backpacking Europe trip that happened to fall during Munich, Germany's Oktoberfest celebrations. Scheduled to stop by for 2 days after London and before Italy. We booked Easy Palace Hostel for one night and arrived early in the morning the first day, drank all day then drank all the next day before our overnight train to Venice. Made a lot of friends and learned the German cheersing song (Prost). Lessons & tips: Book hostels early, they book up fast. Find one close to the fairgrounds. Easy Palace Hostel was about a 2 minute walk and a very clean, nice facility for being a hostel. Make friends. It's a lot more fun having lots of people to Prost. Pace yourself. The beers are very large and can creep up on you. Eat. The giant pretzels are delicious and the roast chicken was the best I ever tasted in my life. |

Happy as hell!
How I did it: It was kind of easy since I live in Germany. In order to avoid the crazy Oktoberfest prices we stayed in Augsburg. It was still kind of an expensive hotel at about 200 EUR a night. I looked at others but they were booked up, and even in Augsburg most hotels were going for about 100 EUR. Also I booked less than a month out. We stayed at the Dorint in Augsburg. I bought tickets at work from my boss for one of the beer tents. I have reliable transportation. I only have to find a hotel for one night, probably outside Munich in Augsburg. I am very much commited to going this year since it is probably going to be my last chance.
