learn some basic etiquette

I have some of the basics down, but much more to learn. Mostly, it is acknowledging that social rules and propriety are still important.

Most of these rules are intuitive but effortful—how to behave sensitively. So, first thing to go is this overused, meaningless question that immediately creates insincerity or ends up conveying a lack of real concern. Better to say hello or good morning and remain tactful and sincere.

I’ve been to a couple of fancy dinners, and participated in some formal occasions (dances, weddings, traditional academic celebrations, meetings) and done well, but it wouldn’t hurt to learn a little more. Would probably make me more socially comfortable, add to my leadership ability, and I’ve always thought that stuff was kind of fun.
