Oh2BeA_Yalie is thinking about not procrastinating over the weekend
Progress...
Well, after reviewing my high school corse schedule, it appears as if it will be impossible to meet my goal of fluency in 10 languages by the time I am out of high school. However, I can become fluent in four more not counting English:
Spanish: 1 year to go
German: 3 Years to go
French: Have not started
Mandarin: Only completed a one year course (almost impossible to reach fluency in under 8 years, so this one is iffy)
Russian: Will be hopefully starting this summer. Anyone know how long this will take?

I would love to learn at least five fluently before college, but seeing as I have literally almost no resources available to me (or rather I do, but my parents forbid it because of my already large workload), so I am stuck.
1.)English: check
2.)Spanish: Okay, could get by fairly well- a little more vocab and fluency practice and I will be proficient
3.)German: Learning- taking a high school course for the first time so I am just getting started
4.)French: Basically, this is the only school language course that is left for me to take, so I suppose I shall begin this one next year (after I finish up Spanish over the summer)
5.)Mandarin: Will hopefully be going to China summer of 2010 so I am planning on taking some courses from a friend’s mom. I can speak a little- although nowhere close to being able to communicate well. My pronunciation is great though!
6.)Russian: I have lots of Russian friends so I would like to start taking Russian, then I could practice my fluency with them! Also, there is a college scholarship available that I would like to have- but it requires great fluency in Russian
7.)Dutch?: I think it would be beneficial just because there are several languages close to it, meaning it wouldn’t be that hard to accomplish fluency in them- I hope.
8.)Suggestions?
9.)Suggestions?
10.) Suggestions?
8,9, and 10 are left open for suggestions. I would like them to be filled by a useful language that would make it easier to learn more similar ones. Such as Portuguese can be learned by fluency in Spanish in a minimal time period. Suggestions from people with similar goals would be helpful! Thanks!
