I guess I should wait for the baby to come before I tackle this one!

My little one is 6 months old, and we’re starting “solids” today. Woot! My goal is to make most if not all of his baby food, at least for now. Certain things I figure will be quite easy—sweet potatoes, avocado, bananas, etc. I don’t have a food processor yet, but will get one soon… I imagine it might be needed for tougher foods, like meats. I like the idea of having greater control over what my little one is eating, and also saving money on the food itself. We’ll see how it all goes…
It’s kind of dumb, but I still make my own baby food on a part-time basis. It’s time consuming and I um, work full time. Every once in a while I will puree a bunch of peas or green beans and throw it in the freezer. But his top teeth are coming in now so pretty soon the baby food thing will be obsolete.
I usually give the baby homemade veggies, but we give him fruit in the jar. My MIL is always buying us new stuff so he does jarred food more often it seems.
I puree my own asparagus, sweet potato and squash. I also have homemade baby cereal but I am trying to use up the instant stuff first.
This goal isn’t as important as it used to be. It does save a little money though.
I just add a little water (1 tablespoon or so), microwave it until soft and then puree it! I mix the water in with it to retain the vitamins and it also makes it more pureed. Then I freeze it in little containers. I froze some squash, barley and other cereals. It’s really not as tedious as it seems and it’s much cheaper than the canned stuff.
mrwoop thinks my year in review is great
just cooked up some vegies and some meat and stick it in the blender, seems to be working so far
I bought a book but you don’t need it. Everything you need is online and in the produce department.
Use organic.
Cook until soft.
Grind, smash or puree.
Feed to baby.
