Magic 8 ball on this site sent this goal my way. Definitely worth doing. Writing is a wonderful tool.

I think I did this! It was fun! The key is to have a nice journal you enjoy. Start it with happy thoughts and make it remind you of happy thoughts. I am so proud when I can remind myself of the unbelievable wisdom and reassurance I have inside.

Years ago I had a lot going on in my life (being in 5th grade is hard—)and I had a couple blank journals lying around. So I sat down and made myself write 3 pages a day. At first I hated it…I had nothing to say and a lot of time I just wrote “I have nothing to say” but after a month, it caught on. I learned how to think through things and rationalize my thoughts. Since then I have filled up 12 journals with art and writing, and become a writer. I’ve been in 3 hardbound anthologies of poetry, the feature in a literary magazine, the subject of 2 newspaper articles, published a lot online, had lots of poems in literary magazines both local and national, in an international magazine, and getting paid.
    I absolutely love to write.

What a task this has been. Some days I just hated it. Other days I would start writing, and not stop until my arm was too tired to go on.

CitaLia gave me the best advice; you just have to show up for the page. Indeed, several of the entries are less than a paragraph; I just wasn’t inspired. On the other hand, a surprising number of entries that began with the line “I’m just showing up for the page today”, ended up running for multiple pages.

In the end, after 30 days of writing every day, I have written 61 pages, or just over two pages a day on average. Not the three pages a day of “artist’s way” fame, but nothing to sneeze at, either.

Considering I need to go back more than a YEAR to count 60 pages prior to this excercise, I’d say it was worth it!

Write on, my friends. Write on.

Today’s writing was nothing short of a breakthrough. I started the day with three pages in bed, but I felt inspired to keep going (and the wife was willing to watch the kids), so I drove down to Westbrook, back to “Laurie’s Muffin Korner” for a “bite and a write”. I brought my journal from 1988 and read about the young, energetic, TOTALLY POSITIVE AND UPBEAT person that I was at age 27, and cracked out another three pages before I knew it.

So far I haven’t missed a day, and although most of the entries are just above drivel, todays brings my page-count to 29, since I started this task 12 days ago.

I’ve done this in February (or was it March?). The good side is, you really get on the roll, and can produce 2000 or 3000 words a day, which is great. The dawback was, I got a bit sick and exhausted of so much creative work, and needed a rest after that. Longish rest. I suppose it’s good to write every day, but don’t overexert yourself.
