I think I started doing my own laundry back in high school and totally took it for granted that anyone should know how to use the equipment.
I was stationed at an Army base for a few months after I graduated from college to attend a military school. We had a number of foreign military personnel who were there to attend schools as well. One night I was in the laundry room in our living quarters when I saw a group of officers - and I hate to generalize - from a section of a world that tends to think of women as second-class (or worse) citizens. They had obviously never been in the position of doing their own laundry before.
I was tempted to leave them to struggle, but I thought better of it and showed them how to use the machines. They were quite grateful.

my mom announced yesterday that i had to do my own laundry (after promising to do the dark load… thanks)
yet i have never worked a washing machine before, and honestly, never had any real desire to.
the only good thing?
now i can finally buy the sexy underwear i want… my momma isn’t gonna wash it, so she can’t object
