When I was back in Kansas visiting my grandparents recently, my grandpa pulled out a scrapbook thing my grandma had put together over the years with some photos and obituaries and newspaper articles. I ended up taking the scrapbook down to Staples and getting copies made of every page so I could have a copy of the scrapbook. I also decided to add to it any other obituaries or interesting information on family history I am able to gather for my son one day.

exploring the Lin (Lim, Lam) and Gao (Ko) families 2 years ago

I’ve helped research the spread of the 2 families, who came to Indonesia in early 19th century. Anybody who is interested may contact me.

what I really wanna do is find where my ancestor came from.Mmm,I just want to trace back to the Qing Dynasty,(AD1644-AD1911).Yesterday I got to know that my mom’s great-great-great-grandfather was from Shanxi province, and my dad’s mom’s great-great-grandfather was from Hubei province.Though they couldn’t make sure about that,it seems my ancestor was not a local people in Shaanxi,mmm..I can’t wait to find the person who keep the Gao’s family tree.

So I finally sent for my birth certificate! I hate that Maryland only sends you a notice saying it’s on file. I’d like to collect copies of the actual documents for my family tree. At least now I have a starting point for my exploration.

I’d like to confirm the information I received from a distant relative. The formally trained historian in me wants more than names and rough dates.

A cool start... 3 years ago

I was researching places I’ve lived and stumbled across someone who is also related to my father’s father. Very cool! I’ve always thought about researching my family tree (I’m hoping other branches aren’t rotted too.)... but finding this stoked the fires of curiosity within me.

Within 6 months I’d like to seriously consider a genetic testing family tree search.

genealogy + internet = easy success 4 years ago

I first got into exploring my family tree about three years ago when a homework assignment for my son in third grade requried it. I was frustrated with how little I knew, and excited about how much info there was to find online. Hunting my tree has become a very satisfying and engagining hobby for me that has brought me closer to my ever growing family.

Check out my genealogy page.
