I figured it would be a nice idea to post my progress here.
Started work on orthographic projections of the design and will probably make a 3D model in Google’s Sketchup (3DS Max etc scare me).
I was greatly inspired when I saw the real thing at the bauhaus museum in Berlin last year :D
My plan so far is to make the pieces by hand, and to buy a pre-made chess board. Preferably a folding one which will carry the pieces.
I’m going to “cheat” and use 3D software. I may never finish, because my main objective is to make a set for a friend, which means designing my own (preferably based around Fibonacci dimensions [the series that goes 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ...]). I found this site by chance while looking for contrasting designs, ie, the classic Staunton versus the Bauhaus one.
