How I did it: Walk a little bit everyday and build up your strength. When game day arrives, just get out there and do it! You'll be buoyed on by the energy of the other runners around you! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I finally made a goal and stuck to it strictly. I always say that I wanna do this, or that, but after barely getting started I always give up. Something about how outrageous this goal was for me gave me the push to keep going. I trained 4-5 days a week for about 5 weeks. I had to give up doing a lot of things that my friends were doing, like when they were going out drinking I had to stay home and eat a healthy dinner and go running. But … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I followed a plan - 8 weeks to an 8k. I followed it until my knee started killing me then I just put my big girl panties on and stuck it out through the pain. Read how I did it…

I’ve been running around town for a couple of months now when a co-worker passed me a brochure for the Richmond Marathon. It’s in November and they offer an 8k so, given I run almost half the course 3 times a week now, I feel confident in my ability and have enough time to train for the full course. Once I started looking up the miles and other info I came across the Race for the Cure site and discovered theirs is only a 5k. Since that was already on my list I’m committing myself to both races 1 month apart with an initial 3 months training. I am stoked!
I was supposed to do this 2 weeks ago, but my feet were too damaged from playing tennis barefoot so I had to cancel. There’s another 8k on July 25th that I’ll probably do, otherwise I’ll have to wait until next year.
I’m registered for Beat the Bridge 8k in Seattle on May 17. I just ran my first 5k today, and I should be trained enough by May 17 to run 4 miles. I guess I’ll just hope I can do the rest of it without walking, too.
Adrienne will be absent while taking strides for goal #1.
I have to admit, running an 8k was not really a goal. But, this 8k did fit into my run an event every month goal. So, I did it.
On Sunday, January 25, in 1 or 2 degree temperature weather, with a fresh layer of snow on the ground, I ran one of my poorer races.
My individual results are: OVERALL PLACE: 110 (out of about 135 I think)
AGE GROUP PLACE: 8 / 9
FINISH TIME: 50:28
PER MILE PACE: 10:09
I have to add I had already run 2 miles and planned to run an additional mile at the end, so I was conservative in my pacing. My knee was hurting by mile 3 run (only mile 1 of the race). Some of the path was clear, most of it was soft snow-pack and slush. It was not fast conditions. I did beat the guy who beat me at the last 10k, though. I’m still not happy with the results.
I did get a neat t-shirt. It does kick-off the ORC “run the magnet” program, which I plan to complete. I may be gone for two of the runs, so I probably can’t do the entire thing, but I can qualify.
Of the photo, my husband says I look just like all the cold runners.

I’m in my 4th week of training and a few days ago I ran my longest time yet!...55 minutes. Job well done, if I do say so myself.

There is an 8k run on December 6th. I’m going to participate. It’s the day before my 29th birthday. I figure it’s a good milestone to a great year.
This was my first ever proper long distance race. I think I completed it somewhere between 40 and 45 minutes. The first lap of the town with all the spectators was tough as the pace was fast and of course I felt like I had to keep up with the more experienced runners. I actually felt like giving up after the first kilometre. Then we ran up into the hills outside the town. This was very tough going. The countryside was beautiful. We ran along tiny little narrow roads , past farmhouses, fruit trees, cornfields and then back down hill into the town and the cheering crowds. It was a great feeling. The oldest competitor was 88 and he got the biggest cheer.

I just finished running the St. Patrick’s Day 8K today. It WAS AWESOME! I’m using these as building blocks for training for a marathon one day. It’s great! Good luck!
