its easier done than said! :o)
we got lost in the rain one night, as well as numerous other times. pretty much everyday was a “let’s get lost” day :o) fabulous! i’ve never been so excited to be lost.

The alleyways are narrow and the buildings are high so you often can’t see the sun to tell which way you’re going. I read one review where one of the recommended travel accessories to take to Venice was a compass – they weren’t joking.
By getting lost regularly (sometimes on purpose) we found some lovely little non-touristy areas inc seeing local kids playing in a square watched by huddles of grandmothers dressed in black, shops and restaurants for locals, gorgeous buildings.
It’s both essential and inevitable if you visit Venice.
