I hope I can see this damn menace be flushed out of our societies…out of everyone’s mind. It’s sad that it still exists. It’s disgusting when people are judged and discriminated against on the basis of race (or religion or gender for that matter). What’s the point in trying to be scientifically/technologically advanced when we refuse to be open minded about the most fundamental things…that even though we may all look different or come from different places…we are all essentially the same. Why is this fact so easily forgotten?!
I hope I live to see the day when this word will be wiped out of our vocabularies forever.
I’m from a small town…with many small minds. Fortunately, I was raised differently than most of the people I’m surrounded by (thank you, mother!). Even though I am a white middle-class American female that grew up in a town of bigotry, I find any sort of racism/discrimination of sexual orientation/color/national origin incredibly wrong. It was great to get out for a few years and go to college and actually see the world a little bit. But now that I am back, I’m reminded of how sad this place is. Children grow up knowing no different and everyone is afraid of change and it disappoints me. Other than staring it in the face and saying “that’s wrong” and 500 other ways of saying all people are equal – how can one really make an impact in changing peoples’ views of race??
I also and strongly against anyone who is antisemetic, like mel gibson, any former nazi’s, and people who deny the holocost happened. These holocost deniers are not giving the honor and respect to all the jews who died in WW2.
I might start a compaigne at my school to stop racism towards everyone – whites, blacks, mexicans, asians, ect.
Racism is awful and a depressing reminder of how crual humans can be.
Racism will disappear – or humanity will.
Of all the discrimanatory “isms” I hate racism the most as I suffered from it. Not as a victim but as a small minded little englander. I grew up in a very “white” environment and credit Bob Marley for making me realise, at 13 or so, how stupid racism is. I’d have realised its stupidity anyway, I hope, but Bob’s music gave me a push in the right direction.
Seems to me , there is far too much of this thing called “racism” going on for today’s day and age…. it is 2006 right ? And yet by the opinions and views some people take in this matter, you are left wondering if we are still in the “dark ages” instead . I think this often comes from a lack of knowledge on the persons behalf , combined with a fear of both the unknown, and of all things different . Different cultures ,different belief’s , different skin color , different traditions . But when you really get down to it, we are all the same really , we just happen to be wearing ” different clothing ” on the outside , that’s all , simple as that .
We need to be models to our children TODAY, not tomorrow . To show them the beauty of differences , to teach them respect of others , and their belief’s , and to embrace the unknown as our path to wisdom , kindness, and in the end, a greater understanding of our self…... For the world we live in is far too small of a place to carry such anger and hate.
