How I did it: Checking tripadvisor for all of the resorts in Cuba and finally deciding on Santa Clara's Cayo Ensenachos 'Royal Hideway Ensenachos'. Then we went to a travel agent and booked the flights. Read how I did it…

Soon. Not to sure how to go about it though. Im scared of my government..wich is sad. Is it safe to book this shit on the internet?
It was a very eye-opening experience. Go there, take it all in, AND MIX AND LEARN FROM THE LOCALS but be prepared to be “changed” by what you see – the people’s lifestyle, their political freedom (or lack thereof!), and their outlook on life.
For a diverse view of the country, I recommend going for at least 2 weeks, and visiting at least La Havana and Santiago de Cuba (two very different and distant cities).
Oh yeah, and learn to salsa before you go! Don’t listen to “Guantanamera” too much before going, because you’ll be sick of it by the end of the trip anyway.. :)
Some of my good friends went down with a student delegation a few years ago, and from all accounts they had a great time. They gave a teach-in at our school following the trip and gave accounts of their advancements in sustainable agriculture, the community between folks, and how 12 year old Cubans knew more about American politics than most 25 year olds here.
From my understanding, it’s much harder to get down there now-a-days but I’d very much like to take a visit before our country swallows up their culture (here’s hoping it doesn’t).
(disclaimer: I’m not one to glorify the political structure/status of their country and don’t discount some of the issues there are; however, anyone critical should probably take a more realistic view of the status of our nation as well)
Its worth going to, probably more so than any other destination in the Carribean, but its not worth getting arrested to do it. FYI, if you are American, unless you have a special visa to go there (visiting family, educational visit, etc), you cant just up and go, or if they find out about it you can get arrested. Castro’s old though, so when he dies I suspect it will be easy to get there.
Ok, so here it is…I suffer form anxiety and I was scared of going on vacation and having panic attacks…not bad, only had two very small one (one induced by too much beer in the sun!). I am proud to have achieved this goal
I did a 2 week trip to Cuba in November of 2006, a great place to visit. I recommend Havana, Santiago and Trinidad, 3 really excellent places to go to.

Ever since I read Pico Iyer’s wonderful “Cuba & The Night,” I picture myself sipping Mojitos on some pavement cafe overlooking the Malecon, with the seductive rhythm of a bolero echoeing out into the magnificent Havana night. My vision of Cuba is far from the tourist ideal. Save me the trip to Hemingway’s House (he hated crowds anyway) and give me instead an afternoon’s tryst in the descrete shade of one of Havana’s gorgeously decrepid old hotels. Forget the segregated beaches, the gated super-resort hotels and even the trip to the rum making factories. Just give me Cuba, and the night.
I really want to visit cuba… i’ve been told that there is nothing like the cuban night. but most importantly, i want to learn the cuban style of dancing salsa…
I went there for 2 weeks in march, it was the greatest time of my life. The culture there is soo great, and the music is beautiful! I have gained a great respect for the people there and their way of life. I Love Cuba with all my heart, and am going back!
