A cluttered room shows a cluttered mind.. 5 months ago

That’s something I always believed in, I feel almost paralyzed when I’m surrounded by clutter especially when I have things that are pressing but I just can’t focus.

I dont think its a variation on obsessive cumpulsive because i’m not a particulary neat person, I just grew up being taught to be VERY organized. I hate losing things or having to search for things, so it yields to try to put bring order to chaos. Now to try to articulate this to my husband who likes making messes and leaving them, and my daughter who’s adopting the same habits at one, is what’s really frustrating me.

Any ideas?

Breakthru! This past weekend i had finally cleaned up the room to make things look alot neater. mind you, there are still things in boxes and stacks, but it’s only because this space occupied was always meant to be temporary. Now, how can I “teach” my husband and little daughter to maintain this space so it won’t get messy again?

landlady gives one day's notice 7 months ago

for a city inspector walk-through… yeah… and this was on 4/20 she gives notice.

So, I got 2 hours of sleep, but house was very pretty and clean and a drug-free zone.

Now to de-clutter, unpack a few boxes from when we moved a year ago, organize and keep it up! Our reward: using the crate & barrel gift cards I’ve been amassing to buy expensive and useless but very pretty home accessories. Possibly also a mortar/pestle set I’ve had my eye on (for the one time every three years I make bullar).

"there was a kangaroo... in my living room..." 11 months ago

except it was a bat in my bathroom and this wasn’t another hilarious episode of family ties.

scene: the seldom-used upstairs bathroom. i followed the cat playfully into the tub only to come face to face with the tiny brown mammal, peacefully sleeping while hanging from the tub faucet. hubby and i had no idea what to do. one thing’s for certain: hubby does not like bats. but the bat was finally extracted after much suiting up and squeamishness. i let the bat go on the deck and it flew away somewhere. hopefully we all don’t have rabies.

the bat incident prompted much googling of bats and i learned all kinds of interesting facts about them.

In the end, we all three survived, but i just have to wonder…. HOW THE FUCK DID A BAT GET INTO THE BATHROOM? does this have something to do with the general state of disarray in which we tend to keep the apartment?

When the Husband and Daughter are away... 14 months ago

The Umi will play!!!

I have the apartment to myself for the weekend and I have alot to do, I want to try to get this place clean, organized and comfortable for them when the get back.

Things on the list,

Laundry
Bathroom
Kitchen
Bedroom
Living Room

Plus experimenting on recipes I’ve found, making some meal plans to work from and culitivate a little creative place for myself.

Looking at it, i know I always have a tendency to make long goals that overwhelm myself but I really think I can pull this all off.

So wish me luck!!

My apartment is a wreck 14 months ago

I have been meaning to clean my one-bedroom apartment up since I moved in. For some weird reason it’s easier to make a mess than it is to clean it up. About six months ago I got as far as making the bathroom spotless and straightening up my bedroom. Both have fallen apart since then.
Okay, so here’s my plan: Break up my apartment into sections (bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, hallway) and devote one or more days a week to each section.
Since I have more time than usual lately (ahem) this should be resolved in a fairly short period of time.

brunch party is sunday 14 months ago

which means we’re on full-scale apartment cleaning lock-down today. I was up to me bony double-jointed elbows in soap suds and sweat just now and needed a break. 43T fix has revived me.

we had a great cleaning session 15 months ago

before vaca. but since returning, things have fallen to shit. so, my first real day off in awhile, i am going to spend the next couple hours cleaning before i have to meet a friend. then, maybe more later. laundry is key and a priority. i’m nearly out of undies! plus i want to see what i can do about decluttering.

our to do list had 21 things on it 16 months ago

and we did 12 before we pooped out at 2:30 a.m. Bed needed us. Now I am awake and looking around and we do have more work, but not so bad. lots of little things, like sweeping, dusting etc. I also get to put my books away in the bookcase we moved downstairs. That’s my most favorite thing to do. We even hung some stuff on the walls so it’s not so bare in here. Things are looking UP UP UP!

Bagel time for me! Then back to work. Hubby worked extra hard, so he gets to sleep in a little.
