I don’t think I’ve completed what I had in mind when I added this goal. Somewhere in my head I thought I was going to figure out how to do magazine-worthy airbrushing or something.
Instead I now know how to make collages and how to remove backgrounds from photographs. And feather things and do weird effects. That’s kind of all I really needed to know.

I really need to do this. I use Ubuntu (even worse Intel64), and because of this I still can’t completely depart from MS which is on my laptop. Even though some companies are flirting with open source it will still be some time before more commercial software providers port their products for linux.
I’m a Photoshop user through and through (which keeps showing up as I keep finding myself using PS keyboard shortcuts while working in GIMP – incredibly frustrating.)
Although I admit I will probably never completely discard using PS (& if I could get WINE to work properly I’d probably not worry too much about GIMP), it would be nice to be able to use GIMP competently enough instead of reverting back to PS whenever I find I can’t do something.

Just play around with it. I taught it to my jr high students. They got it down pretty well too. Now I’m learning Flash, which I’ve heard is quite a bit like photoshop, so that may clear up a few of the confusing gimp terms.Good luck to the rest of you. It’s cheaper than ps, so go for it.

Using Gimp on Mac was not worth the trouble trying to get X11 setup. I purchased Photoshop Elements 3.0 for the Mac instead.

I’m using GimpShop, which is just gimp organized into PhotoShop style menus. (http://plasticbugs.com/index.php?p=241)... I’ve used it a little just for fun stuff…
I want to mostly edit/fix pictures I take. So far I’ve learnt a lot, but I have some improvements to make before I master it.

Had used Gimp to create a few graphics. Still searching the menu for functions.
Kept pressing the wrong function keys as they are all different from Photoshop. Is there a Photoshop key mapping or something…
