How to visit Taiwan
How I did it: I did a bunch of research before going using the good ol' internets. I met people from Taiwan in my city to ask questions and whatnot. If you network well before going you shouldn't have any trouble organizing a place to stay before you get there.

callalilies is thinking of where to go next!
My friend is in Taiwan and he wants me to visit him.
I want to do the glamour shot and eat at the modern toilet (just for the fun of it)!!

Had a couple days stopover in Taipei. It’s great. The people were so genuinely nice, and often we had people approach us to help with directions when seeing us fumbling around with our map.
The metro system is fantastic, and all the signage that we needed to read was in Taiwanese as well as English.
If I had a bit more time would have gone to village areas out of the city, but we still had a great time based in town. Enjoyed the food and the shopping :)
yay for Taipei!

I didn’t have this up as a goal, because I knew I was doing it anyways. But I’m bursting with excitement for my holiday to the US, with my Taipei stopover. Coolness :)
I studied Mandarin at the foreign language center at Fu Jen U a few summers ago. So much fun!!!
I just got a full scholarship to study at Fu Jen University, in Taiwan for the entire summer and I am really excited about it. I am going to leave on May 30 and stay until August 15th. It should be a nice experience since I have never been in an Asian country.
I can’t wait to go. I am also going with a friend so that should make the trip even better.
I have a ticket. What do you guys recommend I check out? Any night spots in Taipei or Taoyuan you recommend? I have family out there, but I haven’t met them. So, I’m not sure how reliable they would be for what’s a fun place for me and my sis to check out. Thanks!
I went to Taiwan when i was a sohpmore in high school! My High School Marching Band went to participate in an international marching and color guard festival that they hold every year. We were one of two schools from the US who went. I loved the trip! I must say, it does make you appreciate the things you have, but it’s a beautiful country!
If you get the chance…go!
This is worth doing. I have gone to Taiwan several times. It is back on my list again. I think strangers in Taiwan are much friendlier than strangers in Japan. If you can get to some of the out of the way places it is quite a unique experience. It is also very safe. Once we came across a girl I think from the UK it may have been the US, at 3:00 AM in a deserted train station. She was perfectly safe in that empty station, although she was very lost. We got her on the right train and then bedded down for a couple hours on some uncomfortable chairs. We also informed her that Taiwan has a very handy 24 hour visitor information system, in English. Taiwan is not a very popular tourist destination, but if marketed properly it certainly could be.
