own my own land

Have leased two paddocks for the donkeys (see different entry). Love to have some land to play with. Love to walk around it and try (in vain) to improve the soil. Feels really good.

Have sorted my budget and some money goes each pay day into the house fund. It will be many years away but good to finally start.

I really need to give this particular thought. It is important to be financially independent and its more than time I got onto it. Ok – will work on the long term savings.

Looked the first house today. Buying one is still along way off but making some steps and coming to grips with the idea of shouldering a huge mortgage!

We have the downpayment for a reasonably priced flat, but there don’t seem to be any reasonably priced flats in London. SO instead we are now looking to buy a 2-3 acre plot near my boyfriend’s parents house out in the sticks. We won’t need to take out a mortgage – our downpayment should pay for the land in full – and we will probably get a better return on our investment than if we just kept the money in the bank. We could buy a house out there, but we would have to rent it out as we wouldn’t have money to cover our rent and the mortgage, and rental properties are not hugely popular in the area that they live in. The extra bonus is that in a few years time, we may have the money to build something on the land – wouldn’t that be something! I think we are going to follow JD from Scrubs and build the patio first – that way we can enjoy the land over the summer and have friends over to dinner on the porch.
