My art stuff is taking over my room and there’s not a lot of room to work even when I have fewer supplies. I’d like to rent a very cheap space (or share with a like-minded friend or two) and move all my materials there.
I wonder if I will find it troubling to go to work in the studio, rather than rolling out of bed and getting started.
I generally don’t earn money from my art, so is renting a space justified? I don’t know.

After moving in with my current house mate, who is great, I have no place to paint with my oils. I can craft, but I can’t paint the big paintings I love. Mostly because it (or rather I) am messy and the smell would not be good for the puppies.
Getting a studio space would give me the place to paint. Also, having a place soley devoted to my artwork would help cut down on distractions and boost my productivity. And I would have a place to display my work as well.
I have a place in mind, it’s in downtown Santa Ana and the last time I was there I asked one of the renters how much his space cost. He said $400. That I can afford, especially if I found a person to split the cost with me. First thing I need to do is call the property management and get the rental amount down on paper. I know where to get the contact info. I should do this now!!
Contact!
So, I just contacted a few people in the area to get some info. I am waiting to hear back from them.
It was a little scary…. Why? Maybe I don’t feel like I’m good enough to be an artist. Which is silly. Go away fear! Shoo!
