i went from over 12 boxes of stuff to 3.
it was tough to do but i definitely needed to. i collect junk, and now i’m…well mostly junkless.

2 hours and counting... 1 year ago

i moved in here in june and just dumped over 12 boxes of stuff in the guest room closet. so today i decided to go through them.
a lot of it is just old childhood pointless crap. toys, stuffed animals, etc. that don’t really have a significance but i kept anyway. and i have a lot of vhs tapes. now that i have my dvd recorder i can convert them to dvd and get rid of them.
i took a break to take a shower and eat something, but now it’s back to the boxes…
    whew…

while i recently dejunked my closet by putting my less necessary things in the attic, I have now purchased more clothes and seem to have started from scratch on the hanging bar. But at least I can find my shoes now.

One thing I heard that helps and I plan to do, is buy some sort of small hamper/container and keep it in your closet or nearby and everything you think about getting rid of but just can’t do it, throw it in. If after one year you haven’t gone looking for it, dump it.

    headway 2 years ago

i made some headway on this. i heard this idea on tv that goes like this – if you haven’t used such and such an object in the last two years, it’s basically clutter that could be thrown away.

this helped me get rid of a boxful of art supplies that i never use but have hung onto for years. i was arty in high school so i guess that’s why this box has hung around so long. guess i thought i’d take it up again, or make a card for someone on a holiday. i have a few more boxes to go through but same deal – in each case most of the box can be thrown out.

    cleaner, thriftier 2 years ago

it’s ambervision! NO, it really isn’t.

i pretended i was moving (bc i thought i was) and packed all my cds into a box. i started going through my audio cassettes and trying to find something to throw out. i say both of these count toward a cleaner, meatier closet.

oh yeah and there’s a box i had out here in the living room. i put it EL knows where. so i’m counting that, as well.

it's a job in itself. 3 years ago

just got finished cleaning a closet in the basement. there’s a lot of progress. more space. a huge pile of things to give away (mostly stuffed animals, boardgames for kids, knick knacks, stuff i didnt use/need/knew i even owned). i feel better already.

dejunk my closet part 1 3 years ago

part one is the closet that runs parallel to my bed. so far i’ve got the shelf that had all my holliday decorations willy-nilly in boxes and sorted out. i’m pitching my rubic’s cube. like i ever use that, so tell me why i had it THIS long?

    Yay! 3 years ago

Finally, everything that is in my closet is stuff that I want to be there!!! It’s still a bit packed and I’m still holding on to some things I’d be better off getting rid of, but it is DEJUNKED!!! YAY!

My shoes have bins 3 years ago

I can now open and close my closet doors because of my shoe bins. I have three, neutrals, colors and boots. I can’t buy anymore shoes until I can fit more bins in my closet. I’ll find a way!

But there’s still seems to be more clothes outside my closet then in my closet. It’s getting there, little by little.
