This is 50% of my dream job. :)

MFA in Acting 19 months ago

I’ve applied, but I need more teaching experience. How do I get the experience, when the jobs I need to have to get the experience require 3 years experience?

As of this semester, I’m teaching my own class (a required course for undergrads in the major) and filling in for 6 sessions (3 weeks) for another Digital Media class.

I just finished my Masters work in December.
    I’m 23.

It’s been an interesting process, but I know this is one of the things I should be doing with my life. Next up: get a doctorate so I don’t end up the eternal adjunct.

Earth History and Physical Science at the General College at the Universtity of Minnesota. I worked for Richard Uthe in the early ‘90s. Loved it and would recommend the job to any undergrad.

Never thought I'd do this 3 years ago

Not in a million years, but here I am teaching Rails at NYU. ITP really has been a crazy ride for me.

After finishing my Ph.D. at l’Université de Montréal in 1999, I was invited to teach a couple of classes in the École de psychoéducation. Several years later, I had taught one particular course four times, another Masters-level course twice, and a third course designed by me twice. I also taught two summer courses at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec, one of which - “Family Dynamics and Therapies” - was my dream course! Salary as a lecturer isn’t that fantastic, though, and I wasn’t interested in going the research and publication route towards tenure; I just love teaching.

College is a time when some people begin to really come of age. When I told my uncle my plans of someday being a professor, he said, “Well, looks like you just never want to leave school. You’re probably right. School really is the best place to be. The real world totally sucks.” Probably does. But I really do like watching people learn.

Very scary to start with 4 years ago

But amazingly rewarding further down the line.
I’m looking forward to my next term which starts soon.

I need to pay the money and join Artsearch. That’s the only way I find the jobs I’m eligible for. DO IT!

    Middlesex 4 years ago

I would like to teach Philosophy at Middlesex University.
I first started studying my subject at AS Level as an evening class for a laugh. I don’t have much in the way of formal education, having left school at 14, and being the proud holder of 1 GCSE (IGCSE English Language Grade A 1999). I’m by no means stupid but I lacked discipline to learn on my own and so going back to college was really interesting and stimulating. I considered doing an Access course and going to university, but instead my AS tutor offered to give me a reference to apply directly to university. I got in. Middlesex is a very up and coming university, and also a centre for modern philosophical research, so I’m very glad to be studying my degree there anyway. Since I’ve been there I’ve realised I want to take this beyond degree level, and also discovered that my public speaking ability might allow me to be a teacher. This is the first time I’ve had a real, grown-up ambition that I can actually see the road to. It’s all quite exciting, in a rather nerdy way ;)
