I phoned my parents last night and had a lovely long chat. How wonderful it is that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876! In these days of mobile phones and the Net, we take voice and text communication for granted.

Nevertheless, there is no substitute for catching up face to face. Hopefully I’ll have that opportunity in July.

Luckily for me both my parents are still alive and in reasonably good health. But they are getting on in years and I live about eight hours drive away so don’t get to see them that often.

So I’m very conscious of helping them as much as I can and keeping in regular contact by phone and e-mail.

Fortunately I’ll be seeing them both at the end of this month.

Life is precious, isn’t it?

I have setup a monthly lunch with my mom and my brothers so that we all keep in touch. With our hectic lives of 10 children between us, work, wives, children, friends, and other activities, life just zooms by. At least with this lunch, we can spend some time each month catching up with each other. My mom appreciates it a lot.
