Saw John of the Mountain Goats at Easy Street Records on 8/21. First in-store show I’ve ever been to, and it was weird. Also, incredibly crowded with people being rude and pushing and shoving to the front well after things were underway. Apparently, one of the crowd crawled up on stage while John was in the middle of a song and DRANK FROM HIS WATER BOTTLE! WTF!!! Sorry dude, that is not only incredibly rude, but also creepy. Anyway, it was great to hear some of the new material in its first ever live incarnation, and hanging out with friends prior and during was also fun.
Bumbershoot is this weekend!

Lucky me! I will be in Seattle for two weeks, and The Mountain Goats are playing an in-store show at Easy Street!

I’m going to be in Toronto for a week for work, and was checking out events. An acquaintance most musical mentioned “Mission of Burma” – she is quite a fan. They are playing somewhere around Toronto while I am there; I have never heard their music; I don’t know my way around the town at all; should I go?
Edit: well, the decision is made to not go – they don’t take the stage until way way late, and it’s a Wednesday night :( So on this one, work wins.

In 2005, we went to Bumbershoot (sort of bleh, though a few good shows) and witnessed a friend’s band, twice, in tiny local bars (sorry guys, you were not bleh, but also not especially good).
So far in 2006, Barbara Morgenstern and The Mountain Goats, and we have tickets for Sonic Youth on 6/30. NoMeansNo is supposed to play here in Sept. Bumbershoot is 3 days at Labor Day. So, it looks like I’m on track for this one!
