I think the 1st step... 11 months ago

for this goal is for me to research what counts as a serving for various fruits and veggies that I eat

09-18-08 14 months ago

09-18-08
1 orange
1 banana
1 strawberry yogurt
+ orange juice that counts as two servings of fruit.
I also plan on having an apple later on tonight.

09-17-08
1 banana
+ a salad from Chili’s.
FAIL! ):

09-16-08
1 banana
1 orange
1 strawberry yogurt
a salad w/ green peppers.
+ orange juice = 2 servings of fruit.

proving to be fairly difficult 17 months ago

i’m really a lousy excuse for a vegetarian, considering this is difficult for me. but it really isn’t one of the easiest goals i’ve set for myself. however, i do feel i’m moving in the right direction with it.
the smoothie idea mentioned below really strikes me as a great idea, i’ll have to look into that. also, drinking more juice, etc.
i’m going to go grocery shopping tomorrow.

Food is overrated.. 18 months ago

I’m going to just enjoy what I eat, when I eat

Makes more change than I thought 22 months ago
This changes my life quite a bit:
  • I keep buying fruit, salads and veggies
  • At the beginning I tried to eat them on top of all the other things I had, but now I try to replace less healthy things and really integrate them in my daily diet
  • I talk about it with colleagues and friends
  • I keep a spreadsheat on what I eat to calculate the monthly average (just for the start as a success indicator; won’t do that for the rest of my life…)

I found a few websites where they give interesting information 23 months ago

Especially helpful are the portion sizes:

They also offer a poster to keep track of your weekly fruit/veggie score:

i want to try and work hard at this goal so i went out and bought a smoothie maker and lots of exciting fruit to put in it!! For breakfast i had a peach, pear and apple one. I totally recomend this as you can consume lots of fruit or veg and its really tasty :)

Snacking on fruit 2 years ago

I’ve been doing quite well on this goal recently, snacking on fruit and eating more salad.
I’ve also been eating pasta with tomato-based sauce a lot lately, and I’m assuming that counts too.
Off I go to have my daily glass of orange juice.

Making improvements again 2 years ago

Well… I had a few weeks of BADness and not eating nearly enough fruit and veg. And I found myself just craving vitamin C. The badness hadn’t been on purpose – I just hadn’t got round to buying the right stuff.

Yesterday I bought a HUGE lot of fruit and veg and feel much better already. I love having a tortilla wrap stuffed full of salad and a wee bit of hummus, with seeds to give it crunch. Oh so tasty!

Need to make some changes 2 years ago

Today I had my usual glass of OJ at breakfast. So I always get one portion out of the way before 9am.

It’s after that it starts to go awry a little.

Today I had heated up leftovers from last night for lunch, which combined with the satsuma I had as a snack maybe makes one portion. OK, two so far for the day.

For supper I had chicken vegetable soup which gives me another portion – so now I need to have two more this evening – that’s a couple of satsumas and some grapes, which I might just manage.
