How I did it: I just looked up recipes online for "cakes from scratch" and found an easy recipe for a basic white cake.I also found an easy recipe for icing on the confectioners' sugar box (Domino brand).To make any of these chocolate, I just dump in some Hershey's chocolate powder.I use almond milk instead of regular milk...I've read that pasteurized milk is not good for you. but…considering it was a “healthy” recipe and it was my first time…yeah they’re kinda gross. haha oh well, next time i guess!

I’m looking for a recipe for some unnamed cake that I’ll make for the annual family get together at Thanksgiving. That gives me enough time to find the cake, get the stuff to make it, and then learn how to make frosting from scratch too. Let’s see I like chocolate, coconut, lemon cake and bananas, so many possibilities so little time.

cause im too lazy to figure out what ingridients i need to make stuff. plus i live alone…so buying flour and stuff kinda seems like a waste because i never use it. but i guess if i had it, i would bake and cook more because i would have it on hand. but still….. maybe once i move to bend and get settled.

So, now I only bake from scratch and all I can say is why did I use cake mixes at all! It’s so much better knowing that what I make isn’t filled with ingredients I cannot pronounce. I know my baking Mom is proud of me.
was the very 1st cake I made from scratch for my 1st bf. Turns out he didn’t like pineapple! Grr!
I bake from scratch all the time. It’s so much fun to mix sugar, flour, chocolate, and other stuff in a bowl, put it in a pan, bake it, have the kitchen smell grand, and then eat the cake. I would suggest starting with the recipe on the can of Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder. It’s really fantastic, along with the frosting.
It’s wonderful. I used to suck at baking, but since I started ditching the mixes and going on my own, I can do almost anything. I love baking now and people love it when I bring in some homemade goodies. :) I think it’s a skill people need to learn.
