I want to buy a house in Atlanta for under 50K, and renovate it while living in said house. It’s looking good so far!

archmemory is trying to figure it out.
It’s an adorable Colonial on an original tract of William Penn Land dating back to 1745. It has a barn & an old stone in-ground pool, and it backs up to woods and sits by a creek (it is actually called “Creek House”). It actually is in a State Park with trails, right next to trails. (The house was there when Washington’s soldiers camped in the park during the American Revolution!) It is a big house, but is being sold in “as-is” condition; so it needs some major work, but is actually for about half of its value. Still, with that, it’s at the high end of our budget, and the renovation work will require a sizable chunk of money. I didn’t expect to like it this much, but I just fell in love with it: the site is gorgeous! I’ve been trying to justify it to my partner as a good investment, but I think he’s very reluctant to take on a house this old that needs so much work. He seems to be dreading nightmarish scenarios ala “The Money Pit”! So I think I will have to give up on that daydream for now…
Currently renovating a 1886 brick farm house in Ohio. It’s beautiful! And will be even more so once it’s done.
This really should be at the bottom of the list, cause it aint going to happen for a long time. Whole student loan thing to pay off etc…oh well as my friend charlotte would say ‘dreams are free except when you have to pay.’
We bought our first home which was 25 years old and needed a ton of work, we put our own love and elbow grease in and were able to sell it make a decent profit and get into a new home.
Wow… I love the process! It is scary addicting! And there are so many great catalogs and wacky little shops to pick up additional items of character… that is really what it is all about for me… the character of the place.
Awesome, awesome thing to want to achieve…!
