simplyash It has been a long time since I've been on!!
How I did it: It took me a long time to actually go get my external hard drive to back my system up. I got a new laptop in August and I bought an external hard drive with it. I did not back up then. I just took all my files that were important and put them on the hard drive. So, I got my Windows 7 upgrade and I decided to upgrade my new laptop on Tuesday. I felt like I had to backup just in case. It was a lot easier than I expected. My computer pretty … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I heard that one of my friends lost all of her photographs when a relative came to stay and used the computer...and wasn't very computer-savvy.The thought of all of those memories being lost was enough to kick me into drive!I went out and bought a passport, and I'm backing up as we speak! He’s a computer guy, and I asked him for a recommendation on a good hard drive. He sent me a link, and I ordered it and a card tonight (250 GB!) It cost about $100.
My husband loaded the new operating system on my computer tonight, and that has a program to time your backups.
When this hard drive comes in and I get it working, I should be done! I feel bad for my friend to have lost everything, but at least it inspired the rest of us.

I’ve owned this computer for about 4 years, and I’ve never backed it up. I have no idea really how to back it up…any advice?
I know the HD is probably getting old and could bugger out on my any day now (I know the fan is running hard on occasion, I need to oil it, but don’t know how to do that either)
I eventually want to get a MacBook or something similar, I’m just tired of all the hassle I have to deal with on my PC. (sorry PC, we’re still friends)
Guess that’s my computer life. Need to do something soon…I have way too many pictures and documents to lose!!
But the more I work on a computer, the more I realize I need to.
Got this done & quick !
Spent a lot of time re-organising
folders & just getting rid of unwanted
data before hand.
Im still however ploughing through images
& trying to slim these down.
But we got a new external hard drive and
it was just easy : )
Now Im on top of it, Ill make sure its
backed up often.

Verify if the backup is readable with an other computer ( some viruses crypt the files and it is transparent on your computer)
Verify if the important files cant be read with several softwares or OS ( Windows, Linux…)
Verify if the backup can be read with an other reader (CD, DVD, card, tape reader )
Store the backup far from your computer,so in case of fire your backup is available.
If you are a paranoia or if you are an important organization (big industry, bank government military…) store your backup in different countries, continents, so in case of war or riot your backup is available.
If you use an on line backup, verify if your provider is reliable.
Have more than one backup.
Have different supports for your backup.
Is your 1st backup available in a short time, what is the cost of one minute, hour, day, week stop of your organization ?
Long John Silvie is home and hopping mad!!
Found my Etwassonderbar font lurking in the backed up files.
