THe house now has a wireless router, just a pity my work’s laptop has W2K installed over W2003 rendering the wireless adapter useless!

I can now have internet access (+ share all my drives) from -1 to +1 floor :) (that’s the whole house indeed). Too bad there are sometimes little disconnections, sometimes I need to reset the router for the connection to work again… but well, it’s okay.
My brother claimed that he will implement a Wifi network. Technically and financially. The keywords of the above sentence are “claimed” and “will”. I think I will buy a Linksys router in the near future. “Why Linksys but not Apple’s Airport Express, you Mac head?” Again, think about the hackability. Linksys’s router is actually a Linux embedded system with their source code released under the term of GPL.
I bought a Linksys WRT54GC. It works great and greater than I expected. It provided more functionality than my previous wired router from an unknown Taiwanese brand. Extra functionality in terms of advance routing features. I can finally setup port forwording and port triggering without problem. (and thus, faster bit torrent)It is very slim, possibly smaller than Airport Express. Compared to Airport Express, WRT54GC got a 4 ports hubs but no USB port for printer sharing as well as the the cool Airtunes feature. It is also a pity that the sourcecode of this router is not yet release. Nonetheless, I can now sleep on bed and go online. My feeling is simple. I am the one to get something done instead of talk talk talk.
Gradually reducing the rat’s nest of cables. Now I just need to get a wireless print server and NAS so that I can move some of the boxes out of the sitting room.
