build a root cellar

I see a good place, not very far from the house, for the root cellar.
I will have a arbor leading to it where we will plant grapevines, doing this in 2009 !

I postponed the work.. the guy did not stay in ouch.. I became dubious… next summer I’ll get it done for sure (and plant appropriately)

I talked to a construction guy and we scoped out the work to get the root cellar made .. WooHoo !

I will make a root cellar of a slightly different type now that we are considering horses (and the horses will use the area I once thought I would put the root cellar

I have a few other projects, and I will be trying to grow veggies I can harvest most of the year fresh, before I take on building the root cellar I envision

I need to do a few other projects before I build this … will need to have cinder blocks and learn enough masonry to get it done myself.. maybe 2009 (2008 if all goes well this summer :-)

got the gravel moved into the dugout area.
I am leaving a space for the cinderblock building to heap earth aroud the sides at least half way up.. should have a root cellar / emergency shelter (?) next year :-)

I just got a book on root cellaring.
I think I can design a good one and start the construction this Fall, and fully use it in the winter of 07-08
