Goal 4 – Every sunday i will have a lesson, when my lessons run out i will buy a book, i WILL drum!
How to learn to drum
How I did it: So I guess I did this—I’ve recorded a couple of albums and played plenty of
shows, but as with anything else it is something you can always get
better at.
I had been a recording vocalist for years, but I always wanted to be a drummer. I didn't get started until I was 34. I though that maybe it was stupid to get started so late, but it has been a great experience. I had a lot of support from some great musicians. It's never too late!
Lessons & tips: What really helped me at first was just playing on
everything with the sticks. Also, playing to albums that I was really
familiar with and loved...something relatively structurally simple, like the Pixies...
while wearing headphones. (hip hop is good for this too!) This helped me to feel more comfortable just
doing what felt right, and helped me to develop that natural metronome
that drummers need.
Rock on!

I am not kidding. It is full of really great exercises, and it is entertaining too! My friend Dan just started using it with his students.

I came into possession of some drum sticks and what I firmly believe is a practice head for a snare drum. Then I hit things with them all the time and pissed off my co-workers.
It seems like whenever I’m drumming….or air-drumming (I do this regularly =P) it’s very hard to do like 5 things at once. I get in the “position” of drumming, where you cross your arms so the right hand is hitting the hi-hats and the left hand is hitting the snare, and right leg kick drum left leg hi-hat pedal. For songs where there is a constant hi-hat pattern, when there is kick drums I tend to speed up the hi-hats and hit the kick drum like 10 times…when it really should be hit rhythmically in patterns of 1—-1-1 or whatever.
How is it that drummers keep the rhythm?
It’s fun and I’m in a band and have been in a few. I have a big task of trying to play super-fast blast beats and working on the double bass.
I’m 18 and I have been playing drums since I was 3, I’m very good at it and its my favorite thing in the world. I’ve been through many different bands but none of them can keep up with me so I’m currently looking for people to jamm with. but if anyone wants some advice, or tips please contact me I love helping others. my email is leehalt@hotmail.com

To be honest, I’m not trying really hard on this one. I rarely sit by the drums at school, I’m more focused on the piano right now.
Perhaps in a certain future?
well kind of. at least im relatively happy banging around for awhile. though im not going to be auditioning for rush anytime soon.
