Why is it NOT worth it to become more environmentally aware?
To “become more environmentally aware” is to realize how overwhelming it is to be a responsible human being. For example, I tried giving up soy (because mass crops of anything are bad news for the environment). But soy is in everything! Read any food label, from soups to sweets, and you’ll probably see soy. Grr!
I am still going to make the effort but for a vegetarian that cares more about land preservation than anything else, it is a major struggle to find the right foods and industries to support (or avoid).
And that’s my point. It is a struggle to be “good” when everyone around me is being so “bad”. It sounds juvenile but all this guilt for not doing more for the environment is tiring, and I can’t help but feel a little bitter toward all those people that aren’t doing a thing to change their destructive, gluttonous ways.
