How about a non-traditional coffee house? 23 months ago

i want to open one too. i’ve been doing a lot of planning lately. i wonder if anyone would like to comment on my idea. here goes: At first i was picturing the classic coffee house, an art friendly, shabby-chic, local coffee house like everyone talks about….then I met a guy who did it a different way. His way worked so i thought about how to do it MY OWN different way.
Seems to me like both guys and girls drink coffee, yet the energy and decor in all the houses seems to lean towards the feminine side. i’m hoping there might be a market for a slightly more guy oriented coffee house—one that girls will like too.

i’m into cars; classics, customs, drag racers, I’m even into imports a little; probably a lot of the guys you know are too. Are there any other people out there that think a coffee house styled after the car culture scene would be cool? if i did it with kind of upper scale look and a bit of a rockabilly flavor, would it appeal enough to the men out there? Would women like it? All other planning and financial concerns aside, how much do you like my idea on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest)?

Coffee shop 3 years ago

i want to open a coffee house, because i love coffee first, and second i just think it’s nice to have a place where u can hang out with friends, or make new friends around coffee! i want to make the place very nice fun and cozy!

I am married to a level headed wife. However, we have have another married couple who are friends with a similiar interest. As we had dinner together, we discussed the possibility of starting a Coffee Shop in a nearby town. It would be a co-operative investment. I have some concerns.

a) Normally a new buisiness generally takes a year to make enough revenue to stay alive on its own. Would we be able to maintain our full time jobs and sustain this new buisiness?

b) Willing to start out small, but how much money will we really need to start a buisiness like this? I realize there are many variables that include but does not list all; rental fee for the location, rental fee for the machines, inventory, enough money for a FTE (full time employment) to manage the place.

This and I wonder if it would not only stay afloat but create enough profit to be worth our time and interest.

I’ve wanted to open a coffee house for years. I’m only 17, but that speaks a lot to me. I would like to open a coffee house that is nice and cozy. Not something pretty like Starbucks. I want a place with books, music, regulars, and most of all, good coffee. I’d also like to sell bread there. :P

I Want To Be Genuine! 3 years ago

I work for Starbucks. Before Starbucks, I worked for another corporate coffee company. These places were great to work for, but they are large. So very large. They proclaim to be very considerate of the costumer but the truth is it is impossible to do any such thing when you are on the verge of world domination. The environment is unfeeling and I hate that they have ‘secret shoppers’ who come in and grade my barista smile. No, I want something more genuine than that. I want to walk into a coffee shop and see a real person, not some freaky-smiling drone. I want art on the walls and sandwiches and desserts that won’t give you heart disease. I want the girl behind the counter to be a hippy and I want the walls to be bright colors, the tables to look used and worn, and I want to only use glassware and mugs. No to-go cups because you are there for the atmosphere. I want to open a coffee shop for college students to sit and study or meet their friends. I would open it on the campus at my home town where Starbucks has yet to invade.

I want it! 3 years ago

Have been daydreaming about it for a long time. I hate Starbucks (tastes like overpriced burnt beans) & want to open shop in my upcoming neighborhood in Brooklyn. I don’t know what stops me. I am driven: a PLUS but don’t have the capital (yet) and real estate is really expensive: a NEGATIVE. I discover all these great foods & coffee that I would want more people to know about. I think I should stop talking myself into it & DO IT!

Why do this? 4 years ago

My wife is going to have a baby in December. We both work and I can’t stand the thought of having a baby raised in a daycare. We would like to open a coffee house with public internet access and a used bookstore/exchange. I would like to display the works of local artists and allow them to sell their merchandise there, and also showcase local musical talent. Of course, Baby Carmeli would come to work with us every day—but no caffeine for him!
